IHCC to present program on invasive carp Oct. 17

OTTUMWA – The Indian Hills Community College Science Club and the college’s Arts and Sciences Department will present the annual Borlaug Fall Seminar “The Silver Menace: Invasive Asian Carp in the Midwest” at 7 p.m. Oct. 17.

The seminar will be presented by Dr. Timothy Spier, assistant professor in the department of biological sciences at Murray State University in Kentucky and will be held in the Rural Health Education Center on the IHCC Ottumwa campus.

Dr. Spier has a bachelor’s degree from Truman State University, a master’s from Moorhead State University, and a doctorate from the University of Southern Illinois, Carbondale. His research focuses on the effect of invasive fish species on the native fish community.

The seminar is free and open to the public.
