Iowa Senator to speak at CAFO meeting

Sep 04, 2018

Iowa Sen. David Johnson, an independent from Ocheyedan, will speak at a meeting Wednesday in Fairfield about a proposed hog confinement in Jefferson County.

The meeting will be at 7:15 p.m. in the Cambridge Room in the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. It will be about the planned 7,497-head hog confinement 2.5 miles west of Pleasant Plain. Bill Huber of Huber Slats will own the confinement. Pleasant Plain Friends for Rural Preservation is organizing the meeting to collect comments from community members, and plans to send those comments to Huber.

Johnson was invited to the event because he has sought to tighten regulations on confined animal feeding operations. He will be joined by guest speakers Jocelyn Engman, co-founder of Pleasant Plain Friends for Rural Preservation, and Diane Rosenberg, president and executive director of Jefferson County Farmers & Neighbors Inc.
