James 'Jim' R. Barnett

James “Jim” R. Barnett, 83, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Jefferson County Health Center.

A memorial service is at 10 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Visitation for family and friends is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the family. Cards and memorials may be sent to 200 N. 28th St., Lot 16, Fairfield 52556.

Mr. Barnett was born June 19, 1930, in Hillsboro, the son of Ray and Linnet Slutts Barnett. He was married to Lucile Standley for 32 years before she died. He married Jacqueline “Jackie” A. Martin Feb. 13, 1982, in Fairfield.

He lived in the community most of his life.

He worked as a shipper and oven tender at Iowa Malleable Iron for 42 years.

He belonged to the Jefferson County Saddle Club and helped coach Little League baseball for many years.

He enjoyed horses and fishing.

He loved his two dogs, Molly and Wishbone.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie of Fairfield; two children, John Barnett and spouse Pam of Birmingham and Marcy Bradway and spouse Rick of Spooner, Wisconsin; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; five sisters, Beulah Shilling and Margaret Workman of Fairfield, Leona Sanderson of Hillsboro, Mary Faught of Douds and Charolette Wallerich of Danville.

In addition to his first wife, Lucile, he was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Ricky Barnett and Jim Barnett Jr.; and five siblings, Lex Barnett, Rex Barnett, Georgia Ellis, Marie Ellis and Robert Barnett.
