Jazz carols will play Dec. 30

The Rev. Joe Phipps, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, and the congregation invite the community to a Christmas Jazz service at 10:30 a.m., Dec. 30, at the church.

“Come prepared to clap your hands and tap your toes to the jazz rhythms of your favorite Christmas carols,” said Roger Gillaspie, band member.

The Fairfield All Star Jazz Band will perform jazz arrangements of several well-known Christmas carols during the worship service.

Songs scheduled for performance include, “Joy to the World,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and “O Holy Night.”

Fred Hucke will be featured on fluglehorn in “Go Tell It On the Mountain.”

Other members of the band are: Francis Thicke, Sue Hicke, Hucke and Greg Hanshaw on trumpet; Gary Ruth, Jay Stooksbury, Ken Burus, Gillaspie and Mark McCabe on saxophone; Ron Prill, Tim Nelson, Jim Edgeton and Gerry Runyon on trombone; LeAnne Edgeton on piano; Ken Norton on drums; Steve Lamb on guitar; and Sue Burns on bass.
