Communications

Jefferson County 4-H’er Kaitlyn Post of Fairfield earned recognition as a communicator at the Iowa State Fair.

4-H’ers compete in three categories of oral communication — educational presentations, working exhibits, extemporaneous speaking — and one category of visual communication. In educational presentations, the 4-H’ers teach their audience about a topic they selected and researched. In working exhibits, the 4-H’ers invite passers-by to try a skill they demonstrate. In extemporaneous speaking, the 4-H’ers prepare a speech in 30 minutes and deliver it to an audience. In poster communication, the 4-H’er conveys a message visually.

Post represented Jefferson County 4-H by giving a “How to Make Bath Bombs” educational presentation. She received a Seal of Merit for her presentation.

Static exhibits

Jefferson County 4-H’ers contributed to more than 5,000 entries judged in the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair.

Non-livestock or static entries can be entered in one of 30 different classes in six divisions: Animals, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Creative Arts, Family and Consumer Sciences, Personal Development and Science, Engineering and Technology.

“It’s quite an honor to have your project exhibited at the Iowa State Fair,” said Wonderlich. “Only the most elite projects are selected to represent the county at the Iowa State Fair. This year, we had a great representation of Jefferson County in the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair. Our exhibitors should be very proud.”
