Kessel earns degree

Patrick Alexander “Alex” Kessel of Farm Bureau Financial Services earned the Master of Science in Financial Services degree from Richard D. Irwin Graduate School at The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

The MSFS degree program provides a diverse financial education that prepares graduates to advise their clients on financial planning needs. Candidates for the MSFS must complete 36 credits of individual and residency study and pass 12 examinations.

Kessel started in the financial services industry in 2001 as a licensed banker with Wells Fargo in Mound, Minnesota. He switched to Farm Bureau Financial Services in 2003 and returned to Fairfield in 2005. He has a bachelor’s degree in history from University of Iowa and numerous certifications through American College of Financial Services and is recognized as an Accredited Estate Planner. He earned his seventh Million Dollar Roundtable in 2017, and been a Farm Bureau Financial Services Hall of Fame member since 2014. His practice consists of four offices in southeast Iowa, and 12 employees.

He and Christie Kessel have three children, Xavier 10, Vanessa 7, and Valerie, 3.

Lunch and Learn set

A Lunch and Learn for BizTraining, “Insurance for Small Business with Neal Gritz,” is set for noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

The event is funded by USDA Rural Business Development. It is free to anyone in Jefferson County, although any firm with more than 50 employees or more than $1 million in annual revenue or a non-resident of the county is asked to pay a fee of $5.
