Kingdom divided cannot stand

By James Lee Elliott | Jun 28, 2018

To the editor:

Did you know that the saying “God helps those who help themselves” is nowhere to be found in Biblical scripture?

Actually, the Bible says the exact opposite, so where did this saying come from? Have you ever heard of a storyteller from ancient Greece called Aesop and his Aesop fables? The Bible tells us in Proverbs 28:26, “Those who trust in themselves are foods.”

Attitudes in 21st century America are similar to those in America before the Civil War. Judges, the bloodiest book in the Bible, which could have been called the “book of failure” tells of the consequences during a time of unparalleled immorality, lawlessness and rebellion.

When enough people live for themselves with little concern for how their actions affects others the results will contaminate an entire nation. Twenty-first century America is a house divided and the division between the two Americas is having some devastating and terrifying consequences on this nation.

Jesus tells us in Mark 3:24,25 “And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand, and if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”

There is a war going on within the very highest levels of this nation’s government and the radical left is willing to do anything to anyone in order to reseize power as they continue the destruction of this Constitutional Republic and the foundations of this nation.

Too many in this nation are ignorant of the fact that it was God who made America great in the first place and blessed America like no other nation.

Oftentimes, it is hard to remember that Ephesians 6:12 tells us, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Satan is using anything and anyone to wreck this one nation for which it stands.

2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

God, who in the beginning created the heaven and the earth, helps those who cannot help themselves and this includes every one of us in this community, this county, this state and this nation as every one of us has sinned and fallen short of His glory.

The death and resurrection of Jesus made it possible for us to escape the consequences of sin. God provided us with a remedy for this time of unparalleled lawlessness, immorality and rebellion.

Will you heed the warnings and accept God’s offer of protection to you? May we celebrate our independence from tyranny and return our dependence to God our creator this July Fourth.
