Lavern Edward Messer, 64, of Kirksville, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Lakeview Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Boonville, Mo.

A graveside service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at White Oak Cemetery in Rome, Iowa.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Mr. Messer was born March 21, 1948, in Fairfield, the son of Noel Lavern and Anna Mae Black Messer. He married Marylee Schaffer. He married Thelma Cox Dec. 13, 1987.

He was educated in Fairfield public schools.

He worked for the Dexter Company, Anderson Steel Co., both in Fairfield, J. Bragg & Sons Recycling Co., in Bloomfield, and for the last several years, Sunbrite Laundry in Kirksville.

He enjoyed his work, fishing, classic cars and Elvis Presley.

He loved and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Thelma of Kirksville; one son, Steven Messer of Bloomfield; two daughters, Shirley Turner and Sherry Messer, both of Bloomfield; two stepdaughters, Lisa Elder of Greentop, Mo., and Lori Cox of Kirksville; three brothers, David Messer of Marshalltown, James Messer and Larry Joe Messer, both of Fairfield; two sisters, Carol Lewis and Mary Smith, both of Fairfield; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
