Learn about Iowa’s woodpeckers Dec. 30

Dec 20, 2017

Jefferson County Conservation will host “Birding 101: Iowa’s Woodpeckers” from 2-3:30 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Jefferson County Park Nature Center.

The class is for anyone who wants to learn more about Iowa’s seven species of woodpeckers. It is great for beginners as well as the more well-seasoned birders, according to organizers Diane Porter of birdwatching.com and Therese Cummiskey, the Jefferson County naturalist.

Porter and Cummiskey will cover identification, adaptations, behavior and life history of woodpeckers.

Participants are welcome to bring binoculars for some after-class woodpecker watching.

No registration is required.
