Local Republicans offering scholarship

The Jefferson County Republicans will be awarding a $500 scholarship this spring to a U.S. citizen, Jefferson County resident and graduating high school senior.

The recipient must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 and be planning to further his or her education at a two- or four-year school in the United States. The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient’s college or university to meet tuition or other educational expenses. The scholarship must be used within the following school year.

The award recipient will be selected based on the information in the application and submission of a short essay.

Applications have been sent to Cardinal High School, Fairfield High School, Maharishi School and Pekin High School. Students can pick up an application from a school guidance counselor, download a copy from http://jeffcoiowagop.org/scholarships/ or contact Ed Kelenyi at 919-2500.

The deadline for submitting the application is Monday. Completed applications can be mailed to Jefferson County Scholarship Committee, c/o Ed Kelenyi, 1402 Wonder Way, Fairfield 52556 or returned to the school guidance counselor.
