Local workplaces in Top 100

The Top 100 Iowa Workplaces announced in The Des Moines Register Sept. 22 included businesses with branches in Fairfield.

The No. 1 workplace in the Large Employer category was Edward Jones, with 513 employees in Iowa. The financial services firm has two offices in Fairfield: the Edward Jones office with Brian Olson and the Edward Jones office with John Stever and Connie Boyer.

The No. 11 workplace in the Large Employer category was Hy-Vee Inc., with 28,775 employees in Iowa, including those at the Fairfield Hy-Vee Food and Drug Store.

The Midsized Employers list included Fairfield-based Jefferson County Health Center with 221 employees, at No. 17, and Cambridge Investment Research Inc., with 457 employees, at No. 23. The Midsized list also included businesses with branches in Fairfield, such as MidWestOne Bank.

It is the highest rated bank in the mid-sized company category. MidWestOne has nearly 400 total employees in 25 bank locations across the eastern half of Iowa and is headquartered in Iowa City.

Goodwill of the Heartland, which has a Goodwill store in Fairfield, was ranked No. 25. The nonprofit human and social services organization has 407 employees.

The Small Employers category included Pizza Ranch. The restaurant chain has 64 employees, including those at its location in Fairfield.

The Des Moines Register recognized 116 companies and organizations in Iowa as Top Workplaces in 2013. The companies have been recognized as top workplaces based solely on surveys about the workplace completed by their employees.
