Lockridge resident helps traveler

By John Smith | Aug 23, 2013

To the editor:

On July 4 I was traveling west on Highway 34 enroute to Des Moines.

Near the top of a long grade my car suddenly died and I coasted to a stop at the corner of Varnishtree Avenue. By a stroke of luck I had stopped right in front of a used car/autobody shop which appeared to be one of the very few businesses along that stretch of road.

In just a couple of minutes the shop owner came out to check on me and proceeded to tow my car up to his shop. He quickly identified the problem, found the part I needed, installed it, and had me back on the road in no time.

He refused to take any money for the part or for his time and gave me his card with a cell phone number with instructions to call if I had any further problems. He would come and get me and make sure I got to Des Moines OK. This gentleman turned a potentially miserable day into a very pleasant one and I’m extremely grateful. People like this are very rare in today’s world, so I want others to know that Jim Redmann of Lockridge is definitely one of the “good guys,” and I will “pay it forward” the first chance I get to help someone else.
