Mammoth program Thursday

Jan 14, 2013

Sarah Horgen, education and outreach coordination of the Natural History Museum for the University of Iowa, will be the featured speaker at the Sac & Fox Lapidary Club meeting Thursday.

Horgen will present a PowerPoint program about the discovery of fossil bones of an Ice Age mammoth near Oskaloosa during the club’s meeting` at 7 p.m. Thursday in Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church.

The public is invited to attend. An opportunity to ask questions is planned.

The discovery of the fossil bones has captured the attention of members of the Sac & Fox Lapidary Club members, who have fossils among their several special interests. As time and the dig has progressed, additional individual specimens have been uncovered.

To be brought up to date on the discovery, the club invited Horgen to come to its January club meeting.
