By Ledger staff reports | May 12, 2017

Fairfield senior Navin Martin teamed up with junior Gannon Courtright to earn a trip to the State Tennis Meet on May 26-27.

On Thursday in Eldridge, Martin-Courtright finished runner-up in the No. 1 doubles bracket, securing their spot at the state meet, which takes place in Waterloo.

Fairfield placed fourth in the meet overall with 14 points, behind Fort Madison (15), Mt. Pleasant (16) and champion Davenport Assumption (20).

“I’m really excited for Navin and Gannon to get to experience the state meet,” said Trojan head coach Bill Sheppard.

“I’ve been working with both of them a lot since each was a freshman, and all their hard work has paid off.

“They really played some very good tennis today and they earned the right to play at the state meet.”
