Feb 21, 2018
PHOTO SUBMITTED Fairfield High School freshman Samara McLain’s artwork  will be displayed in the governor’s office at the state Capitol.

Five Fairfield High School art students will be represented at state level in the Iowa Youth Art Month Show.

This is a juried show of kindergarten through 12th-grade art sponsored by Art Educators of Iowa and the Iowa Arts Council. More than 200 works of art from across the state will be on display during the month of March at the State Historical Building in Des Moines. A reception for the students and their families will be held March 24, also at the State Historical Building.

The FHS students who have artwork selected for the show are: Samara McLain, Addison Pohren and Grace Connor, all in ninth-grade; Phoenix Hunt in 10th-grade; and Mich Putnam in 12th-grade.

A special distinction was given to McLain; her artwork was selected for the Governor’s Show. Her work will be displayed in the governor’s office at the state Capitol building. This is the second year in row that a FHS student has been selected for the Governor’s Show. McLain and her family will be invited for a Capitol tour and awards ceremony with the governor.
