Meet the Trojans event pushed back to Aug. 23, other Fairfield sports news

By ALLYUS FRITZ/Ledger sports editor | Aug 14, 2013

Fairfield High School’s “Meet the Trojans” event has been moved to Aug. 23. The reason for the event moving back is that football teams are only allowed to scrimmage after 10 days of practice. The Trojans’ scrimmage against Knoxville will on be Aug. 23 instead of Aug. 22 in order for that guideline to be met.

Fairfield High School Activities Director Jeff Courtright says that an agenda for Meet the Trojans night will be released soon.

Youth Football

Youth Football registration will change dates as well because of Meet the Trojans night. Registration has been moved to 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 23.

Fifth and sixth graders have three different chances to register. The first available time is from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 17. They also may register at Meet the Trojans night. The last available date is 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 24.

Each individual who plays Fairfield Youth Football must pay $50. The location of registration is in the back of Fairfield High School (north side weight room).

Canvass the Town

Athletes going door-to-door Monday night during Canvass the Town raised approximately $8,600 according to booster Chad Thompson. That money total does not include business contributions or other money the boosters received.

Matt Stutzman

Matt Stutzman, a Fairfield native who was the 2012 Silver Medalist at the Paralympics Archery competition in the London Olympics, will appear on “Iowa Sports & Life.”

This show will be aired in five different Iowa markets during a two-week span starting Monday. One station airing the show is WHBF, which is the Quad Cities CBS affiliate. WHBF will air the show from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10:35 to 11:35 p.m on Aug. 25. Another station is KCRG, which is the ABC affiliate for Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Iowa City, and Dubuque.
