Meth lab discovered in Batavia Thursday

BATAVIA — Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies discovered an active meth lab Thursday while executing a search warrant looking for stolen property at 2146 Cedar Ave. in Batavia.

According to a news release from Jefferson County Attorney Timothy Dille, once the lab was discovered, law enforcement evacuated all individuals from the residence. Members of the Methamphetamine Task Force from Jefferson, Henry and Des Moines counties, as well as Burlington Police and the State of Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement responded and cleaned up the active lab.

George Michael Clark, 42, of Batavia, was arrested at the scene and charged with felon in possession of a firearm, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $750 fine; manufacturing five grams or less of methamphetamine, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $10,000; keep a dwelling for the purpose of possessing, selling or using controlled substance, a aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine of $6,250; and possession of a precursor with intent to manufacture methamphetamine, a Class D felony.

Assistance was also provided by the Fairfield Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Reserve, and Midwest Ambulance.
