Middle school band camp starts Wednesday

Aug 07, 2017

Fairfield Middle School concert band camp will be Wednesday through Aug. 18 in the Fairfield High School band room.

Rehearsal for incoming sixth-graders will be 8-9:15 a.m. each weekday.

Rehearsal for incoming seventh- and eighth-graders will be 9:45- 11 a.m. each weekday.

The session will conclude with a concert on the last day.

The fee is $40 for the two-week session.

Students who have not yet signed up can still participate if they attend and register on the first day of camp, Wednesday.

To have a folder ready for a student who plans to register Wednesday, contact FMS band teacher and camp coordinator MaryAndersen via email at mary.andersen@fairfieldsfuture.org or call the FMS office at 472-5019.

All of the Fairfield school district’s band directors will help with the camp, including Andersen, Jim Edgeton from FHS; Aaron Adam from FHS and many mentors and volunteers from FHS, so the individualized attention allows students to advance quickly on the music or get help in areas of concern.

“We typically cover as much music as what we would learn in an entire semester of rehearsals during the school year,” said Andersen.

Sixth-grade students should bring their instruments, red Standard of Excellence lesson books, and a pencil.

Seventh- and eighth-grade students do not need to bring lesson books for their session.

Information about marching band camp will be forthcoming. According to Andersen, it will be held Aug 14 for drums and flags; Aug 17, 28, and 29 for the full seventh- and eighth-grade band.

For information. contact Andersen.
