Larry and Laura Miller, of 1956 Gear Ave., are among the 46 landowners honored for their conservation efforts at the “Gift to Iowa’s Future” ceremony March 5 at the Iowa Capitol in Des Moines.

The couple, holding the framed certificate, donated a 28-acre conservation easement to Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation as a wildlife habitat and refuge. The Millers live next to the property and have worked tirelessly to restore its oak savanna, grassland and tree plantings. It provides excellent wildlife habitat and positively impacts water quality in the watershed. From left is Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg, the Millers, Gov. Kim Reynolds and Iowa Department of Natural Resources Deputy Director Bruce Trautman.

In 2017, the gifts from the Millers and the other landowners totaled more than $11 million and protected nearly 5,500 acres of land in 32 counties.
