Nation has drifted away from God

By James Lee Elliott | May 11, 2017

To the editor:

This nation’s National Day of Prayer is a significant part of this nation’s heritage. In 1775, during a meeting of the Continental Congress, all the colonies were asked to pray for wisdom as the policies of this nation were being formed.

Unfortunately, the same book that this nation’s presidents place their hand on when taking the oath of office, has not been allowed in the public school houses of this nation for over five decades.

Therefore, this nation has drifted away from God, and the name of Jesus is openly opposed by many in America. Sadly, many believe that if God does exist (many think that he does not), that He is just a spectator on the sidelines watching to see what becomes of America.

Ungodly forces will never give up on opportunity to rewrite or destroy this nation’s founding principles and we cannot continue to allow the few to be successful in pushing their agenda to the top of the political correctness list.

Undoubtedly, there are those in this nation who are uncomfortable with government recognizing and encouraging prayer. One of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on a free people is their interpretation of the separation of church and state.

“There is a moral and spiritual war for the souls of Americans, and this war must be waged by preaching the gospel, prayer and obedience to God’s word.” - Dr. David Jeremiah.

This nation is plagued with cowardice, confusion and corruption in leadership from both sides of the aisles and it is time that this nation stops thinking about political correctness as all that really matters is Biblical correctness.

Government has a role in civilized society and voters in a representative republic may elect a few individuals to be stewards of government, but leadership must have rules and protocols that guide how it conducts business.

The Holy Bible can be profoundly beneficial in igniting a spiritual awakening and revival whenever its teachings and principles are once again read, studied, taught and applied. This nation will again realize that God’s word is both relevant and practical, and that its timeless principles still apply to every area of life in 21st century America or in whatever nation a person calls home.

“Ifs” in the Bible have clear warnings that warn of devastating consequences if not followed. We must never assume that the consequences were only for those that lived in another time or place.

In 2 Chronicles 7:14, we are told about the power of prayer: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will heal their land.”

We must never forget that our God (our Father which art in heaven) is the only one that can provide hope, true liberty and freedom, healing all wounds and the answers to all questions, and that Jesus is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the alpha and the omega, the truth, the life and the way (the only way) to the Father.
