New app promotes community

May 07, 2013

The Fairfield Iowa Convention & Visitors Bureau has released a mobile app as the latest component of its tourism marketing campaign.

The app, available for use on smartphones, is a logical extension to the bureau’s efforts, providing detailed information to visitors and residents alike, making it easy and convenient to find activities, events and restaurants around Fairfield.

The Fairfield CVB mobile app will make it easy to experience the local culture, increasing the visibility of Fairfield as a destination and engaging visitors, according to Rustin Lippincott, executive director of the Fairfield CVB. Anyone downloading the app will be able to use the various tabs to find attractions and locate services, keep up to date with event listings, syncing them with calendars, receive notifications about special deals and local events, share photos and connect by phone with local restaurants, hotels and shops using the built in directory.

The extensive use of smartphones for travel makes a Fairfield app an important asset in providing tourism information to visitors, said Lippincott. Travelers are relying more and more on their smartphones for information when they travel. A recent study found that nearly 80 percent of travelers in the U.S. take their phones or tablets with them and use them all the time, and on trips, smartphone cameras have almost completely overtaken traditional cameras.

“The bureau is really excited to announce this cutting edge addition of the app in our marketing tool-box,” said Lippincott. “The app will allow visitors and residents alike to get the inside scoop on Fairfield and tips on all the exciting things to see and do all year round. The app includes easy-to-search comprehensive listings for events, dining, attractions and shopping. We are excited to have the app ready with various tabs: special RAGBRAI, Events, Around Town, Run and More tabs. The app will continue to evolve for the bureau as we continue to develop new ways to reach the visitor.”

The Fairfield app is an important download for local residents as well, Lippincott continued. Residents can use the directory for event information, to contact restaurants, shops and services or purchase tickets to events from the event tab.

“Detailed descriptions about attractions, events and businesses will put Fairfield in the palm of your hand,” saidTerry Baker, assistant director for the bureau, who led the bureau’s efforts in designing and implementing the app. “This app will continue to brand Fairfield as a unique travel destination, and we are excited to provide a special tab for RAGBRAI riders, designed to help them navigate their way around town, experience the various activities and hopefully return.”

The Fairfield app is free to download from the Google Playstore for Android or the App Store for iPhones and iPads.

The bureau worked with Fairfield company Appsolooty Mobile Marketing to create the app. Appsolootly specializes in providing businesses with simple, effective cutting- edge tools to become more competitive in their field, a goal of the bureau’s.
