New Farm to Fair Dinner set at state fair

Jul 18, 2018

DES MOINES — Have you ever wondered how your dinner got from the farm to your plate? Iowa farmers are inviting 500 lucky people to join them at the largest dinner table ever set at the Iowa State Fair from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 12 on Grand Avenue.

“Food is very important at the Iowa State Fair, but this is a one-of-a-kind chance to sit down with farmers to enjoy a meal from Iowa’s beef, pork, corn, dairy, egg, soybean and turkey farmers,” said Gary Slater, Iowa State Fair manager and CEO.

Tickets for a seat at the 500-foo-long table are free, but are limited. Tell us why you want a seat at the table by Friday by applying at www.iowastatefair.org/whats-new. Five hundred winners will be selected; their selection also includes admission to the fair.

Selected entries will get to sit next to a farmer and enjoy a meal made from locally sourced ingredients straight from the Farm to the Iowa State Fair.

Around the dinner table is the perfect place to ask the basics like where do brown eggs come from and is the butter cow a dairy cow? Or, get into the tough questions about organic foods, GMO’s or antibiotics. Maybe you’ll discover the secret to pork chops on a stick?

For more information, visit www.iowastatefair.org.

Farm to Fair is sponsored by Iowa Beef Council, Midwest Dairy Association, Iowa Pork Producers, Iowa Corn, Iowa Egg Council, Iowa Soybean Association and Iowa Turkey Federation.
