No. 11 ranked girls win big, again

By Justin Webster | Jan 29, 2018

Fairfield’s girls’ No. 11 ranked basketball team didn’t have any trouble with Iowa City Liberty in their season opener Nov. 21 when they harnessed the Lightning 54-28 to begin their quest for a state tournament appearance, and history repeated itself Friday night when the Trojans defeated the new school in North Liberty 67-46 to improve to 13-3.

Sophomore Shay Drish, junior Ashley Bloomquist and senior Nicole Buch all scored in double figures to lead the Fairfield offense. Drish also had three steals, while Bloomquist had six assists and Buch added four assists and three steals.

Other contributors were Malory Jones who had seven rebounds, Ashtyn Drish with five rebounds and Kara Jeffrey who totaled four assists and five steals.

The ranked Trojans will now try to improve their non-conference mark as they host 12-6 Albia tonight at FHS.

The Blue Demons have played several Class 3A schools and even beat SEC member Fort Madison 55-53 on Jan. 6 in Albia.
