Noah’s Ark receives grant

Apr 14, 2014

Noah’s Ark has received a grant of $10,000 from PetSmart Charities Inc. to be used to spay and neuter outdoor, free-roaming and feral cats through the “Beat the Heat” program offered by the Caring Community Spay Neuter Assistance Program.

A female cat spay and FVRCP vaccination is available for $20. The cost of these services typically ranges from $80 to $150. To take advantage of the offer, call Fairfield Animal Hospital at 472-6983.

A limited number of “free” spay vouchers are available to those who meet financial guidelines. Call CCSNAP at 469-2015 for these.

Fixing female cats will prevent litters. Without preventative programs, Noah’s Ark can have a waiting list of up to 250 cats that need homes. Fixing females before they start having litters can reduce the number of homeless cats in the community.

PetSmart Charities has provided Noah’s Ark with support and grants during the past seven years. One program, the Rescue Waggin’, has enabled Noah’s Ark to rescue and transport more than 1,250 local homeless dogs to out-of-state shelters in need of adoptable pets. PetSmart Charities provides critical animal welfare support to shelters nationwide. Noah’s Ark also is the Adoption Partner at the Clive PetSmart store near Des Moines, where more than 1,500 homeless cats have found homes since 2005.
