Nominations due for state fair’s 2017 Iowan of the Day

Three people from Fairfield have been honored in past years
May 17, 2017

DES MOINES – Each year the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation partners with Cookies Food Products to honor 10 Iowans across the state who demonstrate an honest work ethic and dedication to their community while showing an exceptional sense of Iowa pride. The Blue Ribbon Foundation wants to celebrate those who work hard to better their communities and the state of Iowa through their volunteer efforts.

Each Iowan of the Day winner is awarded a day of recognition at the 2017 Iowa State Fair, Aug. 10-20, including an introduction on the Anne & Bill Riley stage, $200 cash, use of golf cart for the day, VIP parking, gate admission, hotel accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown and four tickets to the evening Grandstand event.

Since 1997, the Iowan of the Day program has become an Iowa State Fair tradition honoring a total of 200 Iowans across the state in 20 years. This year is extra special because the Blue Ribbon Foundation celebrates 25 years as an organization dedicated to improving the fairgrounds.

Help say thank you to those who give so much to the state by nominating an outstanding Iowan from the local community.

Find nomination forms online at www.BlueRibbonFoundation.org/IOTD or contact Emily Blum at 515-262-3111 ext. 378.

The deadline for nominations is July 1.

Nominations from 2014, 2015 and 2016 will be reconsidered. All nominees must currently reside in Iowa.

Three people from Fairfield have been honored as an Iowan of the Day: Craig Foss in 1998, Therese Cummiskey in 2001, and Jan Espy in 2006.

“I can’t adequately express how much I enjoyed the experience,” said Cummiskey. “Everything from the start to finish was great.”

The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, it has generated more than $128 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
