Northside Strippers seeking entries for open quilt show

The deadline to sign up is Wednesday
Sep 26, 2017

Northside Strippers will host an open quilt show 1-9 p.m. Oct. 6 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

The show coincides with the First Fridays Oktoberfest, and many quilts will be displayed in shop windows.

Because this is an open quilt show, anyone can show a quilt at no fee. Entry forms must be turned in to O’Grady Cleaners before 3 p.m. Wednesday. Entry forms are available at O’Grady’s.

Judging is offered for a fee: $3 for the first entry, and $1 for each additional entry.

All quilts must be delivered between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Oct. 5 to the convention center.

The show offers a variety of activities, including a Sew Down at 2 p.m. Oct. 7. Sew Down participants and charities receiving funds are: Jim Salts, with moneys going to the Arc of Jefferson and Nearby Counties; Curtis Smith, with moneys going to Parkview Care Center; and Jerry Story, with moneys going to St. Jude’s.

Following the Sew Down, a special presentation at 3 p.m. honors military veterans with local ties. The veterans will be presented with Honor Quilts especially made for them.

A bed turning is planned the evening of Oct. 6 and again at 10 a.m. Oct. 7. A bed turning is a way of showing quilts and telling their history. Some turnings are theme or time-period oriented, others are art inspired; this turning has no specific guidelines, but it is a way to show off the talents and skills of the quilters in the Northside Strippers guild and to introduce the viewers to what they are all about.

Proceeds from a quilt raffle will go to Arc and the Fairfield Senior Citizen Center.

New this year, admission is $5 per person and a door prize will be presented to every 10th person.

Those interested in joining Northside Strippers Quilt Guild can ask the hostess at the door or attend a meeting. Information will be on the brochure at the quilt show.

The 2017 Quilt Show is presented by the Northside Strippers Quilt Guild and sponsors Jim Salts, O’Grady Cleaners, Dave Fredrick, Edward D. Jones, Morrissey Law Offices, Ameriprise, Libertyville Faith United Methodist Church, and New Sweden Women.
