CANTRIL – A Burlington woman was killed and several others injured in a traffic accident Friday in Van Buren County.

Mindy Rae Johnson, 26, was driving a 2005 Mercury east on Highway 2 near Cantril when the car drifted onto the gravel shoulder. According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, Johnson overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. The car rolled into a corn field on the north side of the highway until coming to rest on its wheels.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. A 36-year-old passenger in the car, April Irene Maul, was injured and taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Three 8-year-olds, a 5-year-old and a 3-year-old were in the vehicle. Two of the 8-year-olds were transported to the University of Iowa. The other three children were transported to Van Buren County Hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol has not released the names of the children.
