Open house set for IHCC refurbished library

Nov 06, 2017

OTTUMWA — The Indian Hills Community College Library on the Ottumwa campus will be hosting an open house to celebrate the grand opening of the newly refurbished space Nov. 13.

The event will be 3-4:30 p.m. and will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony with presentations from IHCC President Marlene Sprouse and Vice President Matt Thompson at approximately 3:15 p.m.

The library moved into what was formerly the chapel on the Ottumwa Heights campus in 1984, and the facility had not gone through any major renovations for more than 30 years. The new design maintains the architectural integrity of the chapel while blending modern touches in fabrics, furnishings and finishes with technology upgrades, and a variety of study spaces that appeal to today’s students.

Future plans include renovations of the art gallery space and the library’s second floor, which houses the children’s and AV collections as well as part of the library’s general circulating collection.

The public is invited to join in the celebration, to “check out” the library, and enjoy some light refreshments in the art gallery.

The library and art gallery are open 7:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 4-10 p.m. Sunday. The library is generally closed during holiday and college breaks.
