Ottumwa man trapped in car two days after crash

OTTUMWA – An Ottumwa man is in critical condition after spending two days in his car after he drove off the road Friday.

Patrick Allen Douglas, 60, was lifeflighted to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines Sunday after deputies found him at about 1 p.m.

The incident occurred on Highway 63 south of Eddyville. According to a press release from the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas’s vehicle was found between two bridges near a creek.

Eddyville Fire and Wapello Rural Fire used the Jaws of Life rescue equipment to remove Douglas from the vehicle, which took 1.5 hours.

An investigation revealed Douglas had crashed his car between 5-6 p.m. Friday.
