Outdoor education classes set for teachers

May 17, 2017

DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is sponsoring workshops for K-12 educators on Iowa’s outdoors this summer.

Workshops are scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 12 and 13 at Fossil and Prairie Center in Rockford; June 14 and 15 at Marr Park Conservation Center in Ainsworth; July 25 and 26 at Thomas Jefferson Elementary in Newton; and Aug. 1 and 2 at Arrowhead Park in Neola.

Educators will learn how outdoor projects, exploration, and field investigations provide opportunities for project-based learning that addresses Iowa Core Science Standards.

Participants will be introduced to a variety of nationally developed resources that support authentic learning as well as Project WILD and Aquatic WILD. Trainers will work with educators to incorporate activities from these resources into inquiry-based learning units.

Educators must register to attend a workshop. Find links to electronic registration forms and more information on the DNR website at www.iowadnr.gov/idnr/Conservation/For-Teachers/Projects-WILD-WILD-Aquatic.
