Talking with Head Coach Ken Hutchinson before the game at Columbus Junction Friday, he mentioned that the same Cameron Millikin that dropped 33 points in a win at Highland Tuesday, had gone home sick earlier in the day. Hutch said there wasn’t much concern about the Panthers replacing his offensive output, although he certainly didn’t expect it to come from one source.

Junior Caleb Comstock scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds and shared five assists for his part, while sophomore Dayne Eckley also hit double digits scoring with 10 points, to go with his five rebounds, two blocks and a steal.

As a team, the Panthers started slow which is their M.O., however, they did manage to outscore Columbus Junction 11-3 in the first period. A 17-8 second quarter advantage blew the game open, but CJ clawed back with a comeback attempt as they out-offensed the Panthers in the third, 17-14.

Pekin pulled further away in the fourth, out pacing the Wildcats 13-3 for a 55-31 win.

The Panthers next test will come Tuesday at home versus SEISC foe Winfield, Mt. Union who stands at 1-7 on the season. Tipoff will follow the girls’ game.
