Panthers, Comets and Warriors named to all-district teams

The all-district teams for baseball have been released, and players in The Ledger’s coverage area are well represented.

First team

Pekin senior Garrett Greiner was one of the best pitchers in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference, which is how he was named one of three first-team pitchers. Greiner’s 1.41 earned run average was second best in the conference for pitchers who threw at least 39 innings, and his .101 opponent batting average was the lowest among that group.

Second team

Pekin senior Jake Huff landed a spot in the outfield on the second team. Huff was among the most dangerous hitters in the Panthers’ lineup. His 29 RBIs were fourth best in the conference. He got on base at a .475 clip, and hit for a .361 average. He walked 17 times and struck out on only eight occasions.

Torell Washington, Pekin junior, took home a spot as a utility player on the second team. Washington hit for one of the best averages in the area, .439, and often came through with runners on base. His 30 RBIs were third in the conference.

Honorable mention

Cardinal senior Marcus Olson and sophomore Cameron Honomichl were honorable mentions. Honomichl got on base .472 percent of the time. He had 20 RBIs and was a perfect 10-10 in stolen bases. Olson got on base at a .473 rate and was one of the conference leaders in runs with 25.

Pekin’s Trever Northup, a senior, earned honorable mention, as did Van Buren sophomore Jacob Plecker and junior Greg Wenke. Northup posted an on base percentage of .358, and two doubles and a homer. Plecker finished with 14 RBIs, seven doubles and two homers. Wenke got on base at a .478 clip, and drove in 13 runs.
