Park and rec plans July 4 activities

Jun 30, 2017

Local residents won’t have too far to go Tuesday when searching for fun things to do in celebration of the nation’s independence.

As it has years before, the city of Fairfield is continuing the tradition of a fireworks show at dusk at Waterworks Park. City Administrator Mike Harmon said the fireworks would likely begin at around 9:30 p.m. or shortly thereafter. An array of fireworks will go off over Bonnifield Lake, and city officials are hoping for even more excitement earlier in the day.

“There will be fireworks and yard games out there as well. People can hang out at the beach. We’ll have sand volleyball,” said Fairfield Parks and Recreation director Calvin Todd. “There will be popcorn for sure. We don’t have any drink vendors yet.”

Todd said he had talked to most vendors in town to see if anyone might be interested in participating this year.

“If anyone is interested, they can contact me,” he said, adding that his email address is ctodd@fairfieldiowa.gov.
