Pekin easily defeats English Valleys 56-0

By ALLYUS FRITZ/Ledger sports editor | Oct 07, 2013

Pekin dismantled English Valleys 56-0 Friday.

Pekin (5-1) dominated in all three phases of football; defense, offense, and special teams.

The Panthers played stout defense, holding English Valleys to 115 yards rushing and forcing two interceptions. Pekin only allowed one completed pass.

Eric Adam tallied eight tackles and continually disrupted the English Valleys running game. Two of his tackles were behind the line scrimmage. Trenton Conger was second on the team with six tackles.

The special teams corps left its imprint on the game as well. Keaton Winn blocked a punt and Christian Wittrock returned a different punt for a touchdown.

“I was pleased with all of our special teams play,” Pekin coach Joe Donovan said. “I am happy with the improvements.”

The Pekin offense was stellar. Quarterback Kolby Allsup was not asked to throw the ball very many times, but when he did he made it count. Allsup completed three passes for 52 yards and two touchdowns. Allsup was also the Panthers’ leading rusher, obtaining 99 yards on the ground.

Winn caught two touchdowns on the night and had 48 receiving yards by himself. Tanner Adam rushed for 60 yards.

Pekin will now focus on Friday’s game at Montezuma. Montezuma is 6-0 and is scoring 51.5 points per game. This game will have huge district title implications.
