Pekin teams hosting Coaches vs. Cancer night

Jan 24, 2013

PACKWOOD — Pekin will host its annual Coaches vs. Cancer event Saturday during its girls/boys basketball doubleheader vs. Sigourney.

The varsity girls kick off the event at 6 p.m., and the boys’ game will immediately follow.

Evening events include a Kiss the Pig contest with Pekin administrators Kim Ledger, Thomas Barr, Nathan Wood as well as school nurse Linda Northup as contestants. Students vote in the contestants’ bucket of their choice, and basketball fans will have the opportunity to vote Saturday night up to the start of the boys’ game. The contestant who has the most money in his or her bucket will be announced at halftime of the boys’ game.

Other events include a Pekin vs. Sigourney wreath raffle, 46-second donation bucket drill, center court airplane throw, and a bake and craft sale. The sports boosters will be selling ice cream, and an autographed pink basketball will be up for bid.

A silent auction will consist of more than 20 baskets of items. Bidding will close at the end of the boys’ halftime, and items may be picked up at the start of the fourth quarter. All items must be picked up following the game.

For information about this event or to inquire about donating a basket or item, call 319-695-3820.
