Pekin, Van Buren run in Albia

ALBIA – Albia hosted Pekin and Van Buren as part of its annual cross-country invitational.

The Panthers captured both the boys’ and girls’ titles in dominating fashion led by Colten Glosser, Isaiah Wittrock, Brady Millikin, and Remi Duwa.

The three boys finished 1-2-3 and just three seconds apart at just over 18 minutes, while Duwa finished first for the girls at 17:49 in the shorter 2.6-mile race.

Tanner Conger finished fifth in the boys’ race at 18:43 for the Panthers, while teammate Sam Roth posted a time of 18:59, good for seventh.

The Warriors had three top 20 times on the boys’ side. Jonah Heckenberg finished ninth place at 19:01, John Orndoff was 11th in 19:33, and Clay Neeley ran the 5K in 20:13, which placed him 20th, and the team fifth overall.

The Pekin girls were even more dominate than the guys with seven top 15 times posted. The runners and their times were: Zoey Wright sixth at 19:24, Cari Duwa seventh at 19:28, Hollie Loper eighth at 19:29, Hunter Lock 10th at 19:48, Kaitlyn Glosser 12th at 19:50, and Kelly Myers 15th at 20:16.

Van Buren’s girls were sixth, with their top finisher Audrey Smith posting a 20:26 for 16th, followed by Codi Welch at 21.10 for 25th, Anna Neeley at 21.40 for 27th, Ceyda Nazli at 22:29 for 33rd, Julia Bruckman at 24:41 for 43rd, Sarah Davis at 25:25 for 45th, and Erin Tedrow at 29:09 for 51st.
