Pekin win sets up week nine showdown

By ALLYUS FRITZ/Ledger sports editor | Oct 21, 2013

The Pekin Panthers defeated Southeast Warren, Liberty Center 62-0 Friday.

Quarterback Kolby Allsup only needed to complete three passes, all of which went for touchdowns. He also ran for 45 of Pekin’s 312 rushing yards.

The Panthers (7-1) scored fast, resulting in lots of points and not very many plays ran overall. Petie Clubb led Pekin in rushing with 116 yards and a touchdown. Five different runners ran for a score.

Tanner Adams led the team in tackles with 6.

The real story for Pekin, however, may be what lies in front them. District foe BGM (Brooklyn) (8-0) defeated Montezuma 41-0. Montezuma is now third in the district after losing consecutive games to BGM and Pekin.

The Panthers have already clinched a playoff berth, but a district title could be won Friday when BGM travels to Pekin in the regular season finale. BGM has scored an average of 62.5 points a game, and has only allowed 41 points the entire season.

The team Pekin has been waiting for arrives Friday.
