Pioneer girls cap regular season with win

KEOKUK — The Maharishi School girls’ tennis team rallied in doubles play Tuesday to take a 5-4 victory over Keokuk in a rescheduled meet.

The Pioneers, who trailed the host Chiefs 4-3 headed into doubles matches, picked up victories from doubles teams Jacqueline Leete and Sophia Medvedeva as well as Flower Shreck and Isabel Reed to secure the meet win.

Leete and Medvedeva earned an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, while Shreck and Reed made quick work of the Chiefs’ No. 3 duo en route to an 8-0 victory.

In singles action, Dia Huggins picked up an 8-5 win at No. 1, Medvedeva won 8-2 at No. 5 and Reed was victorious 8-5 in the six-spot.

The Pioneers enter the postseason with a regional dual vs. Knoxville on Saturday. The matchup begins at 9 a.m. in Fairfield.
