Preston teaching oil pastel classes

May 31, 2013

The Fairfield Art Association will offer art instruction of a new medium with John Preston.

Oil pastel will now be alternated every other week with Preston’s regular soft dusty pastel class. The classes take place at 1 p.m. Wednesdays at the Fairfield Art Association Studio, in the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

Oil pastel will be instructed on odd Wednesdays, and regular soft pastel on even Wednesdays of the month.

According to Fairfield Art Association volunteer coordinator Suzan Bates Kessel, some individuals prefer the use of oil pastel because of the mess and dust of the regular.

“There are good things about both, and each have distinct differences in the way you work with them,” she said. “Preston will share his expertise in handling both.”

“John is a master teacher, you learn so much by watching his demonstrations,” she continued. “He gives wonderful feed back and can zero in on where a painting needs adjusting. We are so lucky to have him in our community and sharing his talent instructing classes.”

Class fee is same for each class, $15 for Fairfield Art Association members or $17 for nonmembers. Preregistration can be made with Preston at jpreston@netins.net or call 319-498-4685. He will give a material lists to participants when they register.

Preston continues to instruct “Watercolor” at 1 p.m. Tuesdays at the art association’s studio, for the same fees. Contact and registration also is the same.

All classes, including children’s and college credit, offered by the Fairfield Art Association can be viewed at www.fairfieldartassociation.org
