Primary elections set for June 3

May 23, 2014

The June 3 primary election has party-affiliated ballots to select candidates for the November general election.

The races include an open U.S. Senate seat, which is being vacated by retiring Sen. Tom Harkin. U.S. Representative Dave Loebsack is running for re-election as well.

In Iowa, the governor, secretary of state, state attorney general, auditor and secretary of agriculture are on the ballot.

Residents in Jefferson County have decisions to make about state senate districts 41, 82 and 84, as well as Jefferson County Board of Supervisors where one of three seats is up for election. Incumbent Dick Reed is unopposed for the supervisors seat. County treasurer, county attorney and county recorder also are on the ballot unopposed.

Absentee ballots can be cast in person at the auditor’s office in the Jefferson County Courthouse during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday through June 2.

The Jefferson County Auditor’s Office is extending hours to be open until 5 p.m. today and again the following Friday, May 30; and will be open one Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 31.

Absentee ballots may be requested by mail by filling out an absentee ballot request form from the auditor’s office. The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is May 30.

Ballots need to be postmarked by June 2 or earlier and received in the auditor’s office no later than June 9 for this primary.
