Lockridge churches unite for vacation Bible school

LOCKRIDGE - Lockridge youth from preschool through sixth-grade won’t have too far to go for fun this month, thanks to a collaborative effort by three local churches, which are Lockridge Baptist, Augustana Lutheran and New Sweden United Methodist.

“All three churches are putting it together,” said Mike Renken, organizer of the Lockridge Community Vacation Bible School.

The event will be 5-7:45 p.m. July 17-19, and will culminate with a service at 10:30 a.m. July 23, followed by a potluck dinner at Lockridge Baptist Church.

This year’s theme is “Journey into outer space,” and the public is invited to discover God’s powers to create the universe, and how God became human and is with us every day. Registration is at 5 p.m.

“We will meet at [Lockridge] city hall from 5:30-5:45 p.m. for a light supper to be offered to the children. The music will be at the Baptist church and game time will be at the ball diamond,” Renken said. “One night, supper will be put on by the Baptist ladies, one night by the ladies of Augustana Lutheran, and one night by the New Sweden United Methodist ladies. There will be a free-will offering and money will go to Heifer International and nonperishable food will go to The Lord’s Cupboard in Fairfield. Last year, we had about $130 that went to Heifer International and the kids got to pick what animal they wanted that money to be used for.”
