Lockridge Community VBS raise funds, food, for nonprofits

LOCKRIDGE -- The Lockridge community vacation Bible school that was held July 17-19 offered participants fun and games and a whole lot more. It also raised awareness, funds and other donations for those in need.

This year, the community VBS collected nearly 65 pounds of food, which was delivered to The Lord’s Cupboard. It also raised $120 for Heifer International.

“It was well attended by a variety of young people, both as participants and helpers,” said Jeanie Allen. “There was a time for Bible stories, music, games and crafts after a wonderful meal was served.

Each year, the community comes together to make this a wonderful program and bring the community together and this year was no different.

“We have some volunteers [who] return from  great distances to participate.

They say they always look forward to helping plan vacation time to coincide with the event.”

Fairfield First Christian to host ‘American Apple Pie Gospel”

The Fairfield First Christian Church, (Disciples of Christ) is inviting the community to come out and enjoy “American Pie Gospel” with Randy and Kathy Burris at 10:30 a.m. during worship service Sunday.

Randy and Kathy Burris have toured the Midwest playing fairs, festivals and corporate events, with their hit ‘50s and ‘60s rock ‘n’ roll show for the past 27 years. Their show has been enjoyed all across the Heartland.

The Burris’s have most recently transitioned their program to “American Pie Gospel” the Burrises.

“These are oldies presented like you‘ve never hear before,” said parishioner Judith Hall, explaining that the Burris’s would be performing pop hits with reworded lyrics, sending a sacred message. They also will be performing traditional gospel favorites, all performed with acoustic arrangements, “so it’s easy on the ear.”

The event is free and open to the public.

For more information, call Hall at 472-2473.
