Take Away Hunger helps Florida, Texas

Take Away Hunger is preparing its annual kickoff Sept. 24 and is seeking volunteers to help pack meals for those affected by hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

The packing event will be held at the Word of Life Lutheran Church gymnasium.

“Our packing goal for this session is 30,000 meals,” said Fairfield’s Take Away Hunger event coordinator Don Henderson.

“We need all of the volunteers that we can get. You are fee to come and go at any time that fits your schedule. This will be our 11th packing as a untied group of churches. Together, we have packed 283,212 meals.”

Take Away Hunger is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operated by Don and Sandee Fields of Brighton.

“Last year, they shipped over 3 million meals from their Mt. Pleasant warehouse, mostly to Third World countries,” Henderson said. “These meals were provided by groups in Southeast Iowa.
