Reminder: Fairfield snow removal policy

Dec 24, 2013

It is the property owner/occupant’s responsibility to remove snow and/or ice accumulation from sidewalks within 12 hours after the snow has fallen or ice has formed. Suitable material should be spread on the sidewalk to prevent the surface from being slippery.

In the event the owner fails to remove the accumulation of snow and/or ice, it shall be the option of the city to complete the work with the costs to be charged /assessed to the property owner. Minimum charges apply.

It is unlawful to remove snow and/or ice from private property and deposit it on any public street, alley, city right of way, and/or sidewalk.

Business owners /property owners /private plow operators need be aware that snow may not be piled at intersections as this creates a safety concern.

Also keep in mind that if piles fall into the street after pushing excess up against a curb, it is your responsibility to remove it from the street.
