Reservations due Tuesday for free Thanksgiving meal in Packwood

Nov 16, 2016

PACKWOOD — Packwood Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will host its annual Thanksgiving feast at noon Thanksgiving, Nov. 24, at the church in Packwood.

Although the meal is free and open to the public, reservations are necessary. Those interested in attending should call either Doug Dickey at 319-695-3601 or Frosty Van Voorst at 319-695-3009 by Tuesday.

“We’ve done this for [more than] 20 years now,” said Van Voorst. “We actually started back in 1994. Initially we set it up because we knew that many people didn’t have family gatherings or can’t afford to go out and eat at some other place.”

However, Van Voorst said regardless of their situation, anyone is welcome to enjoy the event.

The dinner is attended by some complete families, singles and a few older couples whose families didn’t or couldn’t come home and who choose not to make a big meal just for two.

The dinner is an opportunity to eat and have a good time while visiting with others.

In past years, up to nearly guests were served Thanksgiving dinner.
