Retailers stock up on fireworks

Jun 21, 2017

More than 500 locations in Iowa have been approved by the state to sell consumer fireworks under the state’s new law, according to the state fire marshal’s office.

Approved businesses may sell fireworks until July 8. State law permits fireworks to be displayed until July 8 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 4 and the preceding and following Saturdays and Sundays. Local governments are able to establish their own display times and restrictions.

State fire marshal Jeff Quigle encouraged fireworks users to read labels before discharging any device.

“Thanks to the dedication of our employees, we have been able to establish a program and issue more than 500 licenses since this law took effect on May 9,” state fire marshal Jeff Quigle said in a press release.
