Richard Roy Jewell, 85, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Phil Ross and the Rev. John Brown officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Visitation for family and friends will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Jewell was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Fairfield, the son of Roy Morris and Frieda Blough Hedge Jewell. He married Roberta Betty Robison June 22, 1974, in Sweetland.

Mr. Jewell served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a radio operator.

He was a lifelong resident of the Fairfield area and farmed his entire life, with his wife joining him on the farm in 1974.

Mr. Jewell served as president of the Fairfield Senior Citizen Center board, was a member of Farm Bureau, Ham Radio Operator Club and Zion Bible Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Roberta Jewell of Fairfield; one brother, Donald Dean Jewell of Moline, Illinois; and one sister, Erma Elizabeth Nelson of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Frieda Jewell.
