Richland library’s summer reading program underway

RICHLAND – The Richland Public Library will celebrate reading, learning and fun through its summer reading program, “Richland Library Rocks,” that began today.

Free programs, story times, reading challenges and fun for all ages is planned.

Families can register for the summer reading programs now. Registration, and a storytime, with stories, snacks, games and crafts, were held this afternoon, but families can stop in and register during regular library hours. The program is open to children ages 5-12, but younger children can attend with an adult caregiver.

Children’s programs will be on Tuesdays in June and July. Programs will all start at 3 p.m.

June 12, Jefferson County Naturalist Therese Cummiskey will rock the Richland library.

June 19, Blank Park Zoo will bring some animals to the zoo for children to learn about.

June 26, a “Rock & Read” storytime is planned with stories, games, snacks and crafts.

July 10, Keokuk County 4-H will host Geologist Camp with 4-H.

July 17 is another “Rock & Read” storytime.

July 24, the Sac & Fox Lapidary and Rock Club will host “Kids Rock,” and children will learn about rocks, gems and minerals.

July 31 is the end-of-summer “Rock & Fun” party. Children should come preparted to play games, win prizes, get wet and eat messy foods.
