Rockets get best of Comets

Feb 11, 2013

EDDYVILLE — The Cardinal girls’ basketball team was booted from the postseason Saturday, dropping a 77-57 Class 2A first-round matchup to Eddyville-Blakesburg.

Senior Lindsay Moore led the way offensively for the Comets, who trailed a hot-shooting Rockets’ squad 35-21 at halftime. Moore scored 25 points off 6 of 7 foul shooting, and freshman teammate Delaney Ridgway scored 17 points off 7-for-8 free throws.

The Comets played right with Eddyville through the first quarter. The teams fought to a 14-all tie after the eight-minute period, but Cardinal scored just eight points in the second quarter as the host Rockets took a commanding lead. Eddyville also out-scored Cardinal 42-35 in the second half.

Also for Cardinal, Jessie McElderry scored four points, while Mattie Kildow and Danae Moses provided three points each.

The Comets end their season with an 8-14 record overall.
