Second Saturday workshop focus on window restoration

Aug 05, 2013

The last Hometown Rewards Program Second Saturday workshop will focus on “do-it-yourself” window restoration from 1:30-3 p.m. Saturday.

Bob Yapp will be presenting the free workshop “Old Windows Aren’t a Pane - They’re GREEN” at 50 E. Madison Ave.

The workshop will be an intense, learn-by-watching opportunity. Many homes in Fairfield have wood, double-hung, windows, and Yapp’s workshop is designed to give attendees a primer in cost effective and energy efficient historic wood window restoration. Participants will learn how cost-effective restoration of original, double-hung, wood windows is achieved. At the end of the workshop, participants will be prepared to apply the techniques they learn on their own property.

The workshop is co-sponsored by Fairfield’s Hometown Rewards Program and Iowa’s Center on Sustainable Communities.

Fairfield’s Hometown Rewards Program is a partnership between the city of Fairfield, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Alliant Energy, KRUU 100.1 FM, KMCD-Classic 96, Hy-Vee, COSC and the Fairfield Public Library. If the community meets the goals of the program, Alliant Energy will help fund the installation of solar panels on the Fairfield Public Library.
